FAQ

Q. do i have to pay for a midwife?

A. No! Registered Midwives are fully funded under Alberta Health Services for anyone with access to Alberta Health care.

Q. do you have to have a home birth with midwives?

A. Nope - Registered Midwives in Canada do offer choice of birth place (meaning home, birth centre or hospital), but it’s your choice! Midwives are specially trained to provide primary care for low risk women during pregnancy, birth and six weeks postpartum in all settings!

Q. how does the high river maternity clinic work? do i see just midwives or just doctors?

A. The High River Maternity Clinic is a one of a kind collaborative practice that has midwives and family doctors working side by side - this means that as a patient you will get to know both types of providers, and can benefit from each model of care working seamlessly together. We also work closely with the amazing nurses, obstetricians and anesthetists at the High River General Hospital to provide maternity services.

Q. can i have a waterbirth?

A. Yes! Most low risk pregnancies and births have the option of labouring in the amazing specialized birth tubs (in each room!) for pain relief during labour, or birthing in the water if you so choose. All of the midwives and many of the doctors at the High River Maternity Clinic are trained to attend waterbirths.

A. Pregnant and wanting to sign up for care with Foothills Midwifery? Head on over to the “sign up for care” or “contact” tabs and send us a message - we can’t wait to meet you!
