Registered midwives in Alberta provide comprehensive primary care to healthy, low-risk women through the progression of their pregnancy and birth, and continue to care for both mother and baby for up to six weeks postpartum.

Maternity care should be a positive experience for women and make a significant contribution to public health, the well being of families and the next generation. Women need to feel as fit and as well prepared as possible if they are to look after their new baby, themselves and the rest of their families.
